Gao-Qing (Max) Lu

Professor Lu has been President of University of Surrey in the UK since 2016, and will be taking up his new role as President of University of Wollongong in Australia at end of May 2025.

Max is a chemical engineer and materials scientist with expertise in functional nanomaterials such as oxides and carbon for solar and hydrogen energy conversation and storage. His publications in catalysis, photocatalysis, membranes and electrodes have an h-index of 162 and over 107,800 citations. He has won numerous awards and prizes and is an elected fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, Australian Academy of Science, and foreign member of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Royal Society of Chemistry, among other academies.
